Biography

Major Edward Montgomery led a company of the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry in the glider-borne assault on Pegasus Bridge on the night of 5-6 June 1944 — one of the first actions of D-Day. His company held the bridge against German counterattacks until relieved by commandos. He was wounded twice during the Normandy campaign but returned to command. After the war he became a don at Christ Church, Oxford.

Майор Эдвард Монтгомери командовал ротой Оксфордширской и Бакингемширской лёгкой пехоты в планёрном штурме моста Пегас в ночь с 5 на 6 июня 1944 года — одной из первых операций Дня Д. Его рота удерживала мост от немецких контратак до подхода коммандос. Был дважды ранен во время Нормандской кампании, но возвращался в строй.
