Biography
Section Officer Edna Kirk served at the RAF Bomber Command station at Syerston near Nottingham, working as an intelligence officer debriefing bomber crews after their missions over Germany. She recorded the testimonies of exhausted young men who had survived flak and night fighters, noting target damage assessments and enemy defences. She witnessed the toll that Bomber Command operations took on the young crews — many of whom she debriefed one night never returned the next. After the war, she became a social worker in Nottingham and was a tireless advocate for veterans' mental health support.
