Biography
Lieutenant Douglas Mitchell served with the 6th Airborne Division and was among the first Allied soldiers to land in France on D-Day, 6 June 1944. His unit secured key bridges over the Orne River and Caen Canal in the hours before the main beach landings. Douglas was killed in action during the fierce fighting to hold the bridgehead against German counterattacks later that month. He was 24 years old.

Лейтенант Дуглас Митчелл служил в 6-й воздушно-десантной дивизии и был среди первых союзных солдат, высадившихся во Франции в День Д, 6 июня 1944 года. Его подразделение захватило ключевые мосты через реку Орн и канал Кан. Дуглас погиб в бою во время ожесточённых сражений за удержание плацдарма.
