Biography
Petty Officer Wren Dorothy James worked at Combined Operations Headquarters in Southampton during the preparations for D-Day. She was involved in the planning and coordination of the massive naval operation, handling classified communications and logistics. Her work helped ensure that the right ships, troops, and supplies reached the right beaches at the right time. After the war, she said that the tension in the headquarters on the night of 5 June 1944 was unlike anything she had ever experienced.
