Biography

Section Officer Dorothy Fenton served in the Women's Auxiliary Air Force at RAF Bomber Command Headquarters in High Wycombe. A Cambridge graduate in modern languages, she was recruited for her fluency in German and French to work on interpreting intercepted communications. Fenton later transferred to the intelligence section, where she helped brief bomber crews before missions. She worked through the night during major operations, providing real-time intelligence updates to Command staff. After the war, she returned to Newnham College, Cambridge, and became a lecturer in German studies, specialising in post-war German literature.
