Dorothy Blake was an Oxford-trained chemist who worked at the Ministry of Supply developing penicillin production methods to treat wounded soldiers. Her team at the Dunn School of Pathology helped scale up penicillin manufacture so that sufficient quantities were available by D-Day. This quiet scientific war effort saved countless Allied lives on the battlefields of Europe.
