Doris Swift

Doris Swift served as a Leading Wren at Western Approaches Command headquarters in Liverpool, the nerve centre of the Battle of the Atlantic. She worked in the plotting room tracking convoy movements and U-boat positions on vast wall maps. Her meticulous work helped direct escort vessels to protect merchant convoys. After the war, Doris became a schoolteacher in Merseyside and was active in veterans' reunions until her passing in 2008.
