Biography
Doris Satchwell worked at the Austin Shadow Factory in Longbridge, Birmingham, building Stirling bomber fuselage sections. Starting as a riveter at age 17, she rose to Charge Hand supervising a team of 40 women. The factory was a prime Luftwaffe target—she survived the November 1940 Birmingham Blitz that killed over 2,200 people. By war's end, her team had helped produce components for over 3,000 aircraft.
