Doris Hartley

Doris Hartley served in the Women's Auxiliary Air Force at RAF Watnall near Nottingham, plotting enemy aircraft during the Battle of Britain. She worked in the operations room, tracking incoming Luftwaffe raids and directing fighter squadrons. After the war, she became a school teacher in Arnold and rarely spoke of her wartime service until a local history project recorded her experiences in the 1990s.
