Biography

Major Dmitri Volkonsky, a Russian émigré educated at Christ Church, Oxford, was recruited by MI6 in 1940 due to his fluent Russian, German, and French. He ran agents in occupied Europe and later served as a liaison officer with Soviet intelligence during the uneasy wartime alliance. Based partly in Oxford and partly in London, he helped coordinate intelligence sharing about German troop movements on the Eastern Front. Much of his work remains classified.
