Biography

First Officer Diana Walker served with the Air Transport Auxiliary, the civilian organisation that ferried new, repaired, and damaged military aircraft between factories, assembly plants, and RAF bases. She flew over 80 different types of aircraft, from Tiger Moths to four-engine Lancasters, often with no prior training on the specific type. ATA pilots flew without radios or armament, navigating by map in all weathers. Fifteen women ATA pilots were killed during the war. Diana settled in Brighton after the war and became a flying instructor.
