Dhan Bahadur Gurung

Rifleman Dhan Bahadur Gurung served with the legendary Gurkha Rifles in the Burma campaign, fighting in some of the most brutal jungle warfare of the entire war. His battalion was part of the force that held the vital positions at Kohima and Imphal, the turning point of the Burma campaign. He was awarded the Indian Distinguished Service Medal for his bravery during the defence of Kohima. After retirement from the British Army, he settled in Oxford, where the Gurkha community has a strong presence.
