Biography
Lieutenant Derek Anand, born to an Anglo-Indian family in Brighton, joined the Royal Sussex Regiment and served in Burma with the famous Chindit long-range penetration groups. He led patrols deep behind Japanese lines, operating for weeks in the dense jungle with minimal supplies. He was wounded during the second Chindit expedition in 1944 but refused evacuation and continued leading his men until the operation ended. He was awarded the Military Cross for his leadership and endurance. After the war, he became a teacher at Brighton College and coached cricket for decades.

Лейтенант Дерек Ананд, родившийся в англо-индийской семье в Брайтоне, вступил в Сассекский полк и служил в Бирме в знаменитых чиндитских группах дальнего проникновения. Он вёл патрули глубоко за японскими линиями, действуя неделями в густых джунглях. Был ранен во время второй экспедиции чиндитов в 1944 году, но отказался от эвакуации. Награждён Военным крестом.
