Biography
Lieutenant Colonel David Hughes commanded a company of the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards during the Normandy campaign. His company was part of the advance through the bocage country, some of the most difficult fighting of the campaign. David was killed near Caen in July 1944 while leading an attack on a fortified German position. He was posthumously mentioned in dispatches. His family in Cardiff has maintained his memory.
