Biography

Dame Laura Knight was one of Britain's most important war artists. Commissioned by the War Artists' Advisory Committee, she painted powerful scenes of women in war factories, bomber crews preparing for missions, and the Nuremberg trials — she was the only artist permitted to record the proceedings.Her Nottingham connections are deep — she studied and taught at Nottingham School of Art. Her wartime paintings, including "Ruby Loftus Screwing a Breech Ring" showing a young factory worker producing precision weapons components, became iconic images of the Home Front effort.
