Biography
Leading Seaman Dai Howells from Tiger Bay in Cardiff was among the 1,415 crew lost when HMS Hood was sunk by the German battleship Bismarck on 24 May 1941. Only three men survived. Dai had joined the Navy at sixteen, following his father who had served in the Royal Navy during the Great War. His name is inscribed on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial. His family in Cardiff held a memorial service every year on the anniversary of the sinking, a tradition his grandchildren continue to this day.

Старший матрос Дай Хауэллс из Тайгер-Бэй в Кардиффе был среди 1415 членов экипажа, погибших при потоплении HMS Hood немецким линкором «Бисмарк» 24 мая 1941 года. Выжили только три человека. Его имя высечено на Портсмутском морском мемориале. Семья в Кардиффе ежегодно проводила поминальную службу в годовщину гибели корабля.
