Biography

Squadron Leader Cyril Demaine from Lewisham was one of the original pilots selected for 617 Squadron — the Dambusters. He flew on the famous raid on the Ruhr dams on the night of 16-17 May 1943, attacking the Eder Dam with Barnes Wallis's bouncing bomb. He continued flying with 617 Squadron on precision bombing missions, including attacks on the Tirpitz battleship and V-weapon sites. He earned the DFC and Bar and the DSO, making him one of Bomber Command's most decorated pilots. After the war, he became a test pilot for de Havilland at Hatfield.

Командир эскадрильи Сирил Демэйн из Льюишема был одним из пилотов, отобранных для 617-й эскадрильи — «Разрушителей плотин». Он летал на знаменитом налёте на дамбы Рура в ночь на 17 мая 1943 года, атакуя плотину Эдер прыгающей бомбой Барнса Уоллиса. Продолжил летать на точных бомбардировочных миссиях, включая атаки на линкор «Тирпиц». Один из самых награждённых пилотов Бомбардировочного командования.
