Biography

Major Boris Shaposhnikov fought with the legendary 62nd Army at Stalingrad, later redesignated as the 8th Guards Army under General Chuikov. Born in Kazan, he was a junior officer when the German 6th Army attacked Stalingrad in August 1942. He survived months of brutal urban warfare, leading his company through the factory district. After Stalingrad, he continued with the 8th Guards Army all the way to Berlin, where he was among the Soviet forces that stormed the Reichstag. He moved to the UK in 1972 and settled in Nottingham.

Майор Борис Шапошников воевал в легендарной 62-й армии под Сталинградом, позже переименованной в 8-ю гвардейскую армию под командованием генерала Чуйкова. Родился в Казани, был младшим офицером, когда немецкая 6-я армия атаковала Сталинград в августе 1942 года. Пережил месяцы жестоких городских боёв, ведя свою роту через заводской район. После Сталинграда продолжил путь с 8-й гвардейской армией до самого Берлина, где был среди советских войск, штурмовавших Рейхстаг. Переехал в Великобританию в 1972 году и поселился в Ноттингеме.
