Biography
Guards Sergeant Boris Kovalenko fought in the defence of Moscow in December 1941, when the German army came within 30 kilometres of the Soviet capital. His division was part of the counteroffensive that drove the Wehrmacht back from Moscow — the first major German defeat of the war. Boris was later wounded at Smolensk and invalided out. He moved to Southampton in the 1980s.

Гвардии сержант Борис Коваленко сражался в обороне Москвы в декабре 1941 года. Его дивизия участвовала в контрнаступлении — первом крупном поражении вермахта. Позже ранен под Смоленском. Переехал в Саутгемптон.
