Biography
Flight Lieutenant Billy Strachan came from Jamaica to London in 1940 to join the RAF. He flew Halifax bombers with 76 Squadron from RAF Holme-on-Spalding Moor, completing a full tour of 30 operations over Germany. He was one of the few Caribbean aircrew to receive the DFC. After the war, he became a barrister and a leading figure in the campaign for West Indian independence and civil rights in Britain, co-founding the Caribbean Labour Congress.
