Biography
Billy Chen was a Chinese seaman from Liverpool's Chinatown who served in the Merchant Navy throughout the war. He survived three ship sinkings in the Atlantic and later sailed on convoys to the Pacific. Like many Chinese merchant sailors in Liverpool, he faced deportation after the war in 1946 despite his service, an injustice only officially acknowledged decades later.
