Biography
Private Bill Speakman was awarded the Victoria Cross for extraordinary gallantry during the Battle of United Nations Hill in Korea on 4 November 1951. When his position was overrun by Chinese forces, he led a series of charges armed only with grenades — and when grenades ran out, he threw beer bottles, ration tins, and anything he could find. His actions bought time for his unit to withdraw safely. Though not a WWII action, his WWII service with the Black Watch earned him the right to join the Immortal Regiment registry. A Liverpool veterans group registered him.
