Biography

Field Marshal William "Bill" Slim was the greatest British general of WW2 and architect of the stunning reconquest of Burma. Taking command of the demoralised 14th Army — the "Forgotten Army" — he transformed it into a formidable fighting force that inflicted the worst land defeat in Japanese military history at Imphal and Kohima in 1944.Slim was beloved by his troops for his honesty, approachability, and willingness to share their hardships. His advance from Imphal to Rangoon across some of the most difficult terrain on earth was a masterpiece of logistics and generalship.
