Betty Marsh

Betty Marsh served in the ATS as an anti-aircraft radar operator during the war. She was posted to AA batteries defending Southampton, which was heavily bombed due to its port and aircraft industry. Betty tracked incoming enemy aircraft on early radar sets, providing crucial early warning to gun crews. The Southampton Blitz of November 1940 destroyed much of the city centre. Betty served throughout the bombing campaign and later helped coordinate the massive logistics operation that made Southampton the primary departure point for D-Day. She lived in Southampton all her life and was a volunteer at the SeaCity Museum.
