Petr Ivanovich Baranov

Military Engineer 2nd Rank Petr Ivanovich Baranov (— 30 April 1942), Secretary of the Soviet Military Mission in Great Britain. Killed in the D.H.95 Flamingo air crash near Great Ouseburn, North Yorkshire, on 30 April 1942 while returning to London from East Fortune airfield. All ten people aboard the aircraft died. The Soviet–British commission of inquiry attributed the cause to an internal engine fault that triggered a fuel-vapour explosion and wing failure. A memorial plaque bearing his name alongside those of Colonel G. P. Pugachev, Major B. F. Shvetsov, and Hero of the Soviet Union Major S. A. Asyamov was unveiled on the High Street in Great Ouseburn on 30 April 2012, jointly by the Embassy of the Russian Federation and the local municipality. Source: Roman Firsov, «Майор Асямов.
