He completed two full tours of operations — an exceptional achievement when the average survival rate was just one in four. He participated in raids on Berlin, Hamburg, and the Ruhr, as well as precision attacks on V-weapon sites in northern France. He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross for his accuracy during a difficult daylight raid on a German oil refinery. After the war, he ran a newsagent's shop on Western Road in Brighton for over thirty years.
