Biography
Chief Engineer Arthur James Blackwood from Liverpool served in the Merchant Navy throughout the war. He survived two torpedo attacks before his ship, SS Donovania, was sunk in the North Atlantic in November 1942 by a German U-boat. He went down with his ship while trying to keep the engines running to give the crew time to launch lifeboats. He was 31 years old.
