Biography
Major Andrei Volkov served in the Soviet Northern Fleet, coordinating the arrival and unloading of Allied convoys at Murmansk and Archangelsk. He worked alongside British and American liaison officers to ensure that Lend-Lease supplies were efficiently distributed to the front lines. Volkov witnessed the arrival of dozens of convoys, including PQ 17, the convoy that suffered devastating losses. After the war, he taught naval logistics at the Leningrad Naval Academy. In the 1980s, he participated in Arctic Convoy reunion events in Britain and eventually settled in Cambridge, where his son had taken a position at the university.
