Biography
Lieutenant Alfred Baines commanded a troop of the Queen's Own Oxfordshire Hussars in the Western Desert. He fought at El Alamein and through the Tunisian campaign before landing in Italy at Salerno. He was killed in action during the advance on Monte Cassino in February 1944, leading an armoured reconnaissance patrol. He was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Service Order for his leadership throughout the Italian campaign.

Лейтенант Альфред Бэйнс командовал эскадроном Оксфордширских гусар королевы в Западной пустыне. Он сражался при Эль-Аламейне и в Тунисской кампании, затем высадился в Италии при Салерно. Погиб в бою при наступлении на Монте-Кассино в феврале 1944 года, возглавляя бронированный разведывательный патруль. Посмертно награждён орденом «За выдающиеся заслуги» за лидерство в Итальянской кампании.
