Biography

Guards Captain Alexander Sacharov commanded a T-34 tank platoon with the 1st Guards Tank Army. He fought through the Battle of Kursk, the liberation of Ukraine, the Vistula-Oder Offensive, and the final assault on Berlin. He was killed in the streets of Berlin on 28 April 1945, just two days before the Soviet flag was raised over the Reichstag. His crew survived and later recounted how he had led them through five major offensives. A Southampton WWII research group registered his story.

Гвардии капитан Александр Сахаров командовал взводом танков Т-34 в 1-й гвардейской танковой армии. Прошёл Курскую дугу, освобождение Украины и Висло-Одерскую операцию. Погиб на улицах Берлина 28 апреля 1945 года.
