Biography

Platoon Sergeant Albert Chambers was a Great War veteran who served in the trenches at the Somme in 1916. Too old for active service in 1939, he joined the Home Guard and trained younger men in fieldcraft and marksmanship. He organised the defence of key bridges and factories around Nottingham. His experience from the First World War made him an invaluable mentor to the volunteer defenders who stood ready for invasion.
