Biography
Captain Albert Ball VC was Nottingham's greatest war hero, one of the first British fighter aces. Though primarily a WWI figure, his legend profoundly influenced the RAF's fighting spirit in WW2. He scored 44 aerial victories before being killed in action on 7 May 1917, aged just 20.His memorial in Nottingham Castle grounds became a rallying point during WW2, inspiring many Nottingham recruits to the RAF.
