Biography

Alan Whitfield was a mathematics fellow at Trinity College, Cambridge when he was recruited to Bletchley Park in 1940. He worked in Hut 6, breaking German Army and Air Force Enigma traffic. His work on cribs and menu construction contributed to the daily breaking of keys that provided vital intelligence for Allied operations. He returned to academic life after the war, bound by the Official Secrets Act.
