Programme A — In the wake of the Arctic convoys

A full-day guided walk through Liverpool's wartime maritime geography, ending at the Western Approaches bunker.

Route

  1. Gather — Royal Albert Dock. Short introduction to Liverpool as a wartime port.
  2. Walk to Pier Head. The allied memorial cluster; the Arctic convoys and the alliance.
  3. Western Approaches HQ Museum. Guided tour of the bunker (2–2.5 hours) — the command centre of the Battle of the Atlantic and the "Arctic Convoys: A Shared History" exhibition.
  4. Lunch. Ma Boyle''s or Bacaro, near Western Approaches.
  5. Optional evening. Documentary screening at FACT with discussion.
